Rag Doll

Sorry for my lack of posts recently. I have been so busy what with finishing uni, graduating and starting my new job as a designer I havent had time to blog much. However I still have been busy creating. This little lady is my first attempt at a rag doll (and the first time I have used my sewing machine in a few years). Shes so cute I love her hair. Her cute outfit is a great way of using up lots of scraps of material and its great to mix and match lots of colour and patterns. Enjoy.

Graduation

Yesterday was my graduation day. It was a wonderful day of celebration and it was lovely to see everyone from my course again. All our hard work over the last three years was definitely worth it. I also start my new job as a designer next week!

Endangered Birds of Britain

My final major project for my graphic communication degree focused on the increasing number of Endangered Birds in Britain. The design focused on making the birds easier to identify by using flat vectorised illustrations. Books and greetings cards were produced to inform and create awareness of the birds. These two posters were also part of the campaign and were featured in my recent show.

Felt monkey

Yes another felt creation. This time its a cute yellow monkey with a beret. He is very small so his arms, legs, feet and hands were a bit fiddly to make. Enjoy!

Felt girl with hood

So I seem to be making a lot of felt characters recently. They are just so quick and fun to make so here's another one to share with you. This little felt girl has a cute red riding style hood and cute big eyes.

Show pictures

Here are a few pictures of my area at the Northampton University Graphic communication show which opens this Thursday 9th June at 6pm. I will be putting more pictures up soon and hope to see you there.

My area focuses on my final major project this year in which I produced a range of books containing greetings cards. The subject was the increasing number of endangered birds in the UK.

The other project my area focuses on is my YCN Fedrigoni Alice in Wonderland tea party. Lots of the cupcakes are on my plinth as well as some cups and saucers.

Also shown is my portfolio which I hope you will take a look at.

Find out more about the show and all the students exhibiting at http://www.dna2011.co.uk/

Dog with Beret

I loved my last sausage dog felt creation so I decided to make more of them. This time however I felt they needed a little more personality so they now have little coloured berets and look so adorable.

Paper Rabbit

This weekend I have been going through all my work to photograph and adjust for my final portfolio. There seems to be so much of it and I still have a lot to complete for my final major project too. Anyway I found this paper bunny. Hes so cute, I made a whole range of these a while ago in a range of different colour, patterns and sizes. I even made two huge rabbits that formed part of a show. This little bunny however is only around 11.5 inches in height. They are great fun to make and different decorations make them look so different.

Royal Wedding Tea Party Day 7

Today's royal craft is once again decorations. I love decorations and I wanted to create romantic inspired creations to celebrate the event. Today I have gone for an all white theme and these would be perfect for any wedding.

Here's the first one, a hanging heart decoration featuring the couples initials. This could also be strung to have a whole line of these cute paper hearts.

Then i thought these would also make great table decorations. So I cut them out and attached them to battery operated tea lights. These are great as they wont set your paper creation on fire and look realistic too.

I then thought what about the bird paper cut I was left with from the hearts. I decided to use these as well. All I did was attach them to a vellum circle and use these as decorations too. They look perfect for a wedding table decoration.

Finally I decided to create some coasters with the swirly bird designs. These look really pretty and go well with the rest of the decorations.

Hope your all looking forward to the big day tomorrow, its getting really exciting here in the UK. So many people camping out in London for the big day. I'm looking forward to putting all these creations together with a few extra pieces like paper cake slices for my little tea party to celebrate. I have also got some real party food to go with the paper ones for my family to have tomorrow while we watch it all on TV, is anyone else celebrating?

Royal Tea Party Day 6

Today I decided to create a red white a blue origami floral centre piece for my tea party. These flowers take a while to produce as each petal is created separately then glued together. The good thing about this piece is you can hang it, have on the table as a centre piece or just create a few flowers to decorate your party.

Royal Tea Party Day 5

Today's royal inspired craft for the tea party is place settings and napkins. The paper napkins feature a gold crown with red, white and blue decoration. The place settings have a mini guardsman at the side and a mini crown above the area to write the guests name on.

Royal Tea Party Day 4

Today's royal craft is a mini favour box for guests containing hair slides or hair elastics for guests to wear at the party. The box has a little gold crown on and I've added red ribbon so it can be hung up too. The hair slides / elastics have felt flowers sewn on them and make a quick and easy gift. They all of course have the red, white and blue theme.

(Special thanks to my two best friends for modelling the hair elastics!)
